Holiday Schedules

How Holidays Work

Holiday schedules override your regular custody pattern for specific dates. You can set up rules like:

  • Thanksgiving always with Parent A
  • Christmas alternates each year
  • Memorial Day weekend follows the regular schedule

Setting Up Holidays

  1. Go to Settings → Holiday Configuration or access from Calendar Setup.
  2. Select a holiday to configure.

Smart Suggestions 💡

The system creates intelligent suggestions based on common custody patterns.

  • When you open a holiday, look for the Suggestion Banner.
  • Click "Use Suggested Pattern" to automatically apply the most common schedule for that holiday (e.g., splitting Christmas Eve vs Day).

Configuration Options

You can manually configure the holiday using these patterns:

  • Alternating Years — Switches each year (e.g., Mom in even years, Dad in odd years).
  • Split Day — Divide the holiday into parts.
    • Simple Split Templates: Quickly choose "Morning/Afternoon" or "Eve/Day" splits.
    • Custom Split: Use the Visual Builder to define precise handover times using dates and times.
  • Fixed Parent — The holiday always belongs to the same parent.
  • Normal Schedule — No special rules; follow the regular weekly rotation.

Validating Your Schedule

The system automatically checks for mistakes:

  • Gaps: Warns you if there is unassigned time during the holiday.
  • Overlaps: Prevents saving if two parents are assigned the same time.

Three-Layer Priority

The Calendar uses three layers, with higher layers overriding lower ones:

  1. Base Schedule — Your regular custody pattern (lowest priority)
  2. Holiday Schedule — Holiday rules override the base
  3. Schedule Changes — Approved one-time changes override everything

Finishing Setup

When you're done configuring holidays:

  1. Click "Finish & Save Setup" at the bottom of the dashboard.
  2. Review the summary screen showing all configured holidays.
  3. Return to the main dashboard knowing your holidays are set.
